This program from the production of For those who live in the sun, written specially for the Bicentennial committee, includes the names of the cast, production assistants, and the scenes of the play. The action of the play begins in Charleston, S.C., in 1950 and then moves to a South Carolina settlement in 1776, a home on Coming Street in Charleston in 1861, a silversmith's shop on King Street in 1819, the German Artillery Hall in Charleston in 1883, Union Station in Charleston in 1917, and a synagogue in Charleston on August 18, 1945.

I was in this play in 1950 when I was 15 years old, a student at Ashley Hall. Sam Byrd had directed me in Romeo and Juliet a few months earlier and asked me to be in this wonderful historical drama. I played Dora Patla in the 1917 Union Station scene.  Dora was a real Charlestonian, who told...
