Abstract:

One year after Kevin Rudd's National Apology, The Forgotten Australians brings to light the untold shameful history of Australia's care institutions. Moving, honest and enlightening, the program tells for the first time the stories and suffering of thousands of Australian children, who were put into care between the 1930s and 1980s; in a system that was unscrutinised and overburdened. Even after the apology, many still don't understand its relevance or importance. This documentary aims to shed a light on this secret history, the after-effects of which are still being felt.
