Four separate films made by Yasha Aginsky: "Homemade American music" traces the origins of rural American music from traditional folk cultures in the southern United States and demonstrates how traditional music is learned, played, adapted and performed by younger musicians from urban backgrounds; "Sonny Terry : shoutin' the blues" films Sonny Terry, blind blues harmonica great, in a motel in Oakland, California, telling about his start in show business and playing an original solo; "Les blues de Balfa" films Dewey Balfa telling about his renowned Cajun music band and his life after the fatal crash of his brothers and band members Rodney and Will; and "Cajun visits" presents six masters of traditional Cajun music, Dennis McGee, Wallace "Cheese" Read, Canray Fontenot, Leopold Francois, Robert Jardell and Dewey Balfa filmed at homes in rural southwest Louisiana.
