Correspondence, memoranda, speeches, magazine articles, poetry, reports, radio broadcast transcripts, trial transcripts, research notes, biographical notes, financial records, personnel records, travel records, press releases, address lists, awards, newspaper clippings, obituaries, printed matter, drawings, floor plans, photographs, posters, maps, and other papers chiefly documenting Farrell's career from 1945 to 1975.

The collection includes material on Farrell's role in the Marine Corps as an interrogator and prosecutor for the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, Shanghai, China, investigating Germans accused of continued military intelligence and propaganda activities in the China theater in violation of Germany's unconditional surrender in May 1945. Also documented is Farrell's career as a journalist in New York, N.Y., covering literary, theatrical, and social events as a columnist ("New York--Day by Day") for the New York World-Telegram and as a commentator for various radio broadcasting stations and networks from 1948 to 1969. Includes material on his later work (1970-1983) in public relations and advertising and his interest in such organizations as the Intrepid Museum Foundation and the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Also includes papers of an aquaintance Jack Howard Redding.
