Abstract:

Correspondence, clippings, speeches, certificates, and memorabilia of Matson, a St. Paul (Minn.) city official (1910s-1920s) and member of the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission (1923-1936, 1938-1949). They relate largely to his membership or participation in Masonic lodges in St. Paul and elsewhere (1904-1949), the Reserve Officers Association and other military organizations (1920-ca. 1940), the Minnesota Safety Council (1928-1946), the Lincoln Republican Club of St. Paul (1935-1936), and the St. Paul Winter Carnival (1937-1941).

Also included is Matson's diary (June-November 1916) of his service with the Minnesota National Guard on the Mexican border; minutes of the Gavel Club, St. Paul (1923-1925); letters concerning his campaigns for railroad and warehouse commissioner (1936, 1938, 1944); and his speeches (1936-1947) on the commission's history and work.
