Abstract:

Paper 1: A study is described in which a film technique was utilized to predict the comparative effectiveness of several signs proposed for use in locations where a lane is to be dropped. Paper 2: A traffic operations study was conducted on the west bound Penn Lincoln Parkway in the vicinity of Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Pittsburgh to determine means of improving and maintaining optimum traffic operations during the congested morning peak period. Paper 3: To obtain known or new characteristics of traffic flow at high volumes, the relationship between speed, volume and density on an expressway were studied. Paper 4: A new collection system is presented that has proven to be very practical for conducting accurate traffic surveys and traffic flow research studies.
