Smith, 1848-1859, concerning studies and school life at Academy of the Visitation in Georgetown, family news, comments on Paris, France, California, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans, theater, opera, and yellow fever epidemic on Staten Island; 60 letters and telegrams to New York State Assemblyman Joseph Blumenthal, 1860-1891, concerning party politics, Congressional and Presidential elections, legislation affecting New York City, invitations to Tammany Hall meetings, political favors, and other matters; correspondents include Samuel A. Merritt, Robert B. Roosevelt, William Cullen Bryant, W.L. Havemeyer (New York City mayor), and William Steinway; and a letter from J.C. Ruben to Ray Schneider, 1949, concerning these documents and biographical information on the families.
