Abstract:

Jacqueline was a half-Jewish girl in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam when she met Anne. They quickly became inseparable - until the day Anne and her family went into hiding to escape deportation to the Nazi concentration camps. In this memoir, Jacqueline remembers Anne, their friendship, and her own chilling Holocaust experience of narrowly escaping deportation by the Nazis and helplessly watching friends and family diappear one by one. She also recalls what it was like to start life over after the war, and how she learned to accept the fame of Anne's diary.
