Abstract:

Consists of records documenting the activities of the Fund for the Republic, Inc., and its defense of civil rights and civil liberties from 1952 through 1961.

Included are correspondence, memoranda, financial documents, minutes, reports, grant applications, clippings, press releases, writings, transcripts, and speeches, which provide an invaluable look at the Fund's struggle to uphold the basic principles of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights during the years of McCarthyism and its aftermath.
