Abstract:

Bradley discusses his father's interest in mountains and hiking, the group of men who were charter members of the Sierra Club, and his recollections of John Muir. He continues with his education at Yale and his years as a professor of physiological chemistry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School at Madison, his return to Calif. in 1948, and his subsequent years as an active member of the club. Major topics covered include the beginnings of what would become club service trips, winter trips in the Sierra, the Hetch Hetchy controversy, the building of the Tioga Rd. in Yosemite, and his tenure as club president.
