Abstract:

Geographical boundaries created by political events keep two lovers apart. Before the partition of India in 1947, a Sikh truck driver comes to know an aristocratic Muslim girl. During the religious riots that erupt soon after partition, they meet again when he saves her from a murderous mob. As she is now alone, he promises to take her to Pakistan; on the way they fall in love, and she decides to stay with him in India. They marry, have a son, and then she discovers that her family was not killed, but are living in Pakistan.
