Based on the story of the same title by Richard Harding Davis, which was originally published in Scribner's Magazine, August 1890.
Edison produced and released in 1910 a 1-reel motion picture also entitled Gallegher, which follows the same basic story line as this film but has discrepancies concerning characters and events (Moving picture world, v. 6, p. 610).
