Abstract:

The sixth program shows that the planet is divided into physiographic regions which resulted from unique internal dynamic processes. The Great Basin is the first geomorphic region introduced, followed by the Colorado Plateau and the Atlantic coastal plain. Each region is considered as a biotic community with a unique geological history. The episode stresses the importance of watersheds and river systems in the health of an ecological community or region. It broadens the concept of regions to those designated as formal, functional, or colloquial, based on societal attitudes and activities, processes that take place within those regions, human migration within those regions, or a common culture and history.
