Abstract:

Papers of poet George Cabot Lodge, 1880-1909, pertain to his life as a student, poet, and assistant to his father Senator Henry Cabot Lodge. Papers include letters written and received by Lodge when he was a child, teenager, and adult; report cards from grammar school; notes on lectures attended while a student at Harvard and the Sorbonne; orders and commissions for his service as a naval cadet during the Spanish-American War; correspondence with the Egypt Exploration Fund, 1901-02; and original manuscript copies of his published and unpublished poems and plays.

Correspondents include his father Henry Cabot Lodge, mother Anna Cabot Mills Davis Lodge, grandmothers Anna Cabot Lodge and Harriett Blake Mills Davis, wife Mathilda Elizabeth Frelinghuysen Davis Lodge, and friends Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Warren Stoddard, among others.

Also includes condolence letters for George's death received by his mother, father, and wife following his death in 1909, letters pertaining to a biography of him written by Henry Adams, letters received by his family pertaining to his life and work, and clippings about his life, death, and writings.
