Abstract:

Correspondence, memoranda, writings, transcripts, research files, reports, patents, grants, diagrams, newspaper clippings, printed matter, photographs, and other papers pertaining primarily to Goddard's assignments in the U.S. Army Air Corps (later the U.S. Army Air Forces and U.S. Air Force) relating to his promotion of aerial photographic reconnaissance and to his technological contributions in the field. Includes materials on Goddard's experiences as commanding officer of the Sixth Photographic Section, Camp Nichols, Philippines, including the mapping of a previously unexplored area of Luzon Island; his work at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base research development laboratory in Dayton, Ohio; his inventions including the stereoscopic strip camera; and his activities after retirement.

Also includes correspondence, notes, and book reviews pertaining to his autobiography, Overview: A Life-long Adventure in Aerial Photography (1969); and transcripts of oral history interviews conducted by Goddard with Dwight D. Eisenhower, Benjamin Delahauf Foulois, Elliott Roosevelt, and other military officers and civilians interested in aerial photographic reconnaissance.
