This film through extensive archive footage and interviews presents the life of a man central to the civil rights years in the South, a lightening rod for controversy, a liberal judge who betrayed his principles for power, a politician who harnessed the anger lurking beneath American society to create a lasting conservative movement and a man ultimately reborn through suffering.
