Smiling Madame Beudet originally produced 1922 as La souriante Madame Beudet. Cast: Germaine Dermoz, Alexandre Arquillière, Jean d'Yd, Madeleine Guitty. Scenario, Andre ́Obey, photography, A. Morrin. Based on the play by Denys Amiel.
The seashell and the clergyman originally produced 1928 as La coquille et le clergyman. Pantomime. Photography, Paul Guichard; screenplay, Antonin Artaud. Summary: A clergyman, committed by his calling to celibacy but in love with a romantic beauty, is afflicted by sexual torments he is unable to resolve. The surrealist film is composed of a series of episodes using Freudian imagery to express the clergyman's mental anguish.
