Gito, a student from Burundi studying in Paris, returns home with his new diploma. He leaves his Parisian girlfriend, Christine, behind, promising he will send for her once he becomes a Minister. Unfortunately, the government offices are overstaffed and he cannot find a job. Christine comes looking for him and discovers he has taken up with an old sweetheart, Flora.
Gito cannot prevent Flora and Christine from meeting; they devise a plan to embarrass him. Becoming a laughingstock forces Gito to re-examine his conduct and his ambitions, which he abandons in favor of his natural talent--sewing.
