I have been reading through Balthasar's 7 volumes for several years now. I read Vol I three times. I began an indepth search for more meaningful prayer about 20 years ago and someone recommended "The Glory of the Lord." I am sure it is the most important work on contemplative prayer written in the 20th century! Balthasar has a one volume work entitled "Prayer" that has to be the best one volume treatment of contemplative prayer I have ever read.
