The only known copy of the original 1861 printing is in the Beinecke Library, Yale University. The author "Loo-Wit-Lat-Kla" was in reality one of the men from a prospecting party searching for gold. "Despite the title, this is not a history of gold discoveries, but rather of a prospecting party, which, balked in the search for gold, turned to new fields of endeavor and made the first successful ascent of "Loo-Wit-Lat-Kla," or Mt.
