The US Government's NOAA Fisheries Service introduces itself to interested teenagers and adults in a very nicely illustrated picture book. Starting with how people catch fish for sport and for sale, they outline the basic processes of the industry and then lay out some basic marine biology as investigated by NOAA scientists. This is useful as an introduction not so much to the topic as to how marine scientists find out what they know. They finish up with brief discussions of law enforcement and habitat protection, with a nice glossary, set of facts and index at the end. But there is no list of other books for more information. The illustrations are very effective, though not photorealistic, and the production values are quite high. Librarians may notice that no publication information is provided, although cataloging copy is available through OCLC.
