Abstract:

Set in the public markets of Mozambique, an often light-hearted story that features 12 year-old Paito, a boy who loves to work selling his mother's home-made fritters. When he is robbed by a gang of young thugs, he decides he will not go home until he gets his money back. Following the gang onto a train, he leaves his town and ends up at the big city's market square, a home to the homeless, where he meets a variety of colorful characters. When he meets Xano, another boy who lives on the streets, the two team up to combine Paito's strong work ethic with Xano's street savvy in the hope of getting Paito's money back.
