Abstract:

Practical guide to the GST (which will operate as of 1 July 2000), crammed with checklists and examples. The first part sets out the basic rules for the operation of GST, calculating GST on sales, registration requirements, calculating GST credits on business inputs, GST returns, paying GST and getting refunds. The second part brings together the special rules that apply to: particular types of exemption, particular industries (such as financial services), types of transaction (import, export, real estate and sale of business), particular types of taxpayers (groups, branches, agents and associates). The last part covers important transitional rules, GST planning strategies and the anti-avoidance provisions.
