Decoration: 6-line illuminated initials on 1r, 61r, 119r, 230r depicting men holding and reading from books; decoration extends into a border on all 4 sides with foliate, grotesque and animal motifs. 2-3-line illuminated initials throughout, frequently with faces in them, extending into borders with human, animal, and grotesque faces. 3-4-line pen-flourished initials in index. Capitals in red. Decorated initials in red and blue or violet.
Origin: According to A. Manfredi. Codici latini di Niccolò V, 1994, p. 293, this manuscript was written in Italy in the 14th century. However, illumination appears to be late 13th century southern French, with Italian influence.
