Abstract:

"Featuring a real trial judge, real attorneys, and twelve jurors picked by the attorneys, GUILT OR INNOCENCE ... was an unprecedented television event that provided never-before-heard facts and witnesses relating to the case -- including first-person testimony from James Earl Ray."--1993 Peabody Awards entry form excerpt. The program also includes testimony read into the record of several witnesses not appearing in court, including William C. Anschutz, Charles Quitman Stephens, Guy Warren Canipe, Annie Peters, James McCraw, and James Orange. Testimony of Ray after his arrest in London is also read into the record. Included is footage from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Promised land speech and footage from an interview with Percy Foreman. The program was condensed from the 10-day trial in which the jury unanimously decided that Ray was not guilty of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
