Abstract:

The matchstick man is an atmospheric profile affording a perceptive and illuminating glimpse into György Kurtág's world. He is seen teaching and working with musicians, including his wife, Márta, Adrienne Csengery and Claudio Abbado conducting the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

The seventh door draws a portrait of composer Peter Eötvös, a prominent champion and exponent of modern music. Also includes interviews with Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen and shows Peter Eötvös conducting his opera The three sisters.

DVD extra, Exercises (24 min.) includes 5 works by Kurtág in a documentary directed by Judit Kele.
