Abstract:

Collection of letters and writings by Hall Caine. The letters consist of 28 letters to Holbrook Jackson (accompanied by a carbon typewritten reply from Jackson), and a letter each to the Librarian at the London Library, Mr. McClure, Henry Albert Phillips, Mr. Spencer, Messrs. Tillotson, Samuel Waddington, and Sir William Watson. There are two letters to "My Dear Miles;" the earlier, dated 19 May 1890, contains an autograph draft of a "Biographical sketch of Dante Gabriel Rossetti."

The writings consist of an autograph proem to "The Bondman;" a carbon typescript, corrected of "Letter to the Committee of Free Libraries on the Choice of Novels;" a mimeographed typescript of "Proposing 'The Associated Booksellers;'" an autograph "The Synopsis of a Serial Story;" an autograph "When a Book is Immoral" (with a note on p. 1 from Caine to Holbrook Jackson); an autograph "The World League" (with an envelope addressed to Holbrook Jackson).
