Abstract:

In this version, Hamlet is not the prince of Denmark, but is really named Herbert and is the offspring of a wealthy Viennese family of art dealers. Franzobel manages to blow away the dust from classical theater, and to transform tragedy into pure comedy. The dramatic history of Hamlet becomes a Viennese folk piece that will have you dying of laughter.
