Abstract:

The Harlem Globetrotters started playing in 1927 in the Savoy Ballroom in Chicago. When the Savoy decided to look for a new attraction, they changed their name, took to the road, and became stars. Driven by coach Abe Saperstein, they took on all comers, won all games, and performed comedy routines on court to delight the crowds. They silenced critics who claimed they were merely entertainers by defeating the champion Minneapolis Lakers. From their Windy City beginnings to the present day, this film uses archive footage, photographs, and interviews with players, journalists, and famous fans to present a portrait of America's beloved "Clown Princes of Basketball" the Harlem Globetrotters.
