A rare look inside a child's view of the world of her family, unfolding in profound and moving ways.  The author had an uncanny ability to find resonance with deeper meaning and the sensitive nature we all share underneath our day-to-day functional selves.

The story is invested with such heart, the life of the protagonist with such irony and pathos, it leaves a lasting memory.

Have taught chapters of the book to my child psychology classes at a South Bronx college.  Always left an indelible mark on students, challenged them to uncover their own questions and vulnerabilities and make them shareable.
