Oswald Knapp (OK) of Dorset produced this published book in 1911 by means of a subscription.
It integrates all known English Knapp pedigrees in a very conservative fashion. While my interest focusses upon the actual British lines, there exist some of the American Knapp lines such as Nichloas, etc. (Probably because of the subscription based approach to publishing.)
Owald K continued the research efforts of his father and a Stacey Grimaldi, a Victorian genealogist of note. O.K. studied parish registers, wills, abstracts of wills by others, particularly two Knapp researchers unrelated to O.K.
O.K. never used any GRO birth records eschewing them possibly because of costs.
More than once in his book, he contradicts and corrects pedigrees provided to him. To me this is a good measure of his scholarship. Most of the PR research ends about 1800 whether done by O.K., his father, or others. Also there are numerous errate provided to the text, showing more strong willingness to research and revise.
Of great interest to me are the many lines in Berkshire as my own Knapp line appears in Berks. in the 16th century. None of it yet connected to any Knapp family O.K. identifies.
When my own research connects into one ot these documented Knapp families, I will verify the intial research to the extent the original records still exist.
