Abstract:

Actor Anthony Chisholm was born on April 9, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio. Drafted by the U.S. Army, Chisholm served as platoon leader for the 4th Armored Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division in the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Chisholm performed in The Boys from Syracuse and The Threepenny Opera at Cleveland’s Karamu House. In 1968, he began studying acting with Lloyd Richards in the Negro Ensemble Company’s master class, and then joined the Vietnam Veterans Ensemble Theater Company in 1985. His acting credits include Tracers (1985), Back in the World (1988) and The Strike (1990). Chisholm performed in off-Broadway and Broadway productions of August Wilson’s Pittsburgh Cycle, including Two Trains Running (1990-1992), Jitney (1996), Gem of the Ocean (2004) and Radio Golf (2005-2007). Chisholm portrayed prisoner Burr Redding in HBO’s Oz, in addition to roles in Reign Over Me (2007), Premium Rush (2012) and Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq (2015).
