Abstract:

Magazine editor and author Audrey M. Edwards was born on April 21, 1947, in Tacoma, Washington. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Washington in 1969, and her M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1974. Edwards began her magazine career as an associate editor at Redbook in 1970, and worked at Black Enterprise, Family Circle, More and Essence, where she was executive editor and editor. Her career also included magazine freelance writing, with her work appearing in Essence, The New York Times, Glamour, and The Columbia Journalism Review, among others. Edwards co-authored the book, Children of the Dream: The Psychology of Black Success, and collaborated with Edward Lewis on his business memoir The Man From Essence: Creating a Magazine for Black Women in 2014. In 1992, she received the New York Association of Black Journalists Excellence Award in Magazine Feature Writing.
