Camellia Moses Okpodu

Abstract:

Molecular biologist Camellia Moses Okpodu was born on January 24, 1964 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She graduated from West Brunswick High School in 1982 and then enrolled at North Carolina State University where she received her B.S. degree in biochemistry in 1987 and her Ph.D. degree in plant physiology and biochemistry in 1994. Upon graduation, Okpodu was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship in plant molecular biology from the Virginia Institute of Technology. In 2002, Okpodu served as the first Marshall Rauch Distinguished Professor at Elizabeth City University and was later appointed professor and chair of the Norfolk State University Biology Department. While there, Okpodu served as a research manager from 2007 to 2013, including holding appointments as director of the National Institutes of Health Extramural Research Office, director of the Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence and director of the Group of Microgravity and Environmental Biology.
