Abstract:

Radio and television host Dyana Williams was born November 9, 1953 in Queens, New York. She graduated from Harlem’s Washington Irving High School in 1971. Williams’ career in radio started in 1971 when she worked as a DJ at the City College of New York. Recruited by Howard University Radio, WHUR, in 1973 Williams was invited in 1975 to New York City’s WBLS radio. In Washington, D.C., Williams became program director at WMMJ radio and the host of television’s P.M. Magazine. Moving to Philadelphia in 1982, Williams worked for WDAS radio, Black Entertainment Television and The Soul of VH1. She produced a PBS special called “The Philadelphia Music Makers”. In 1990, Williams and Sheila Eldridge launched the Association of African-American Music (IAAAM). In 1997, Williams earned her B.A. degree in television, radio and film from Temple University. Williams and Eldridge formed Creative Consultants for Soul Solidarity. .
