Abstract:

Nurse and educator Grace Y. Ingleton was born on September 14, 1936 in Panama City, Republic of Panama, where she received her early education in Spanish. Ingleton migrated to Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Prospect Heights High School. Ingleton earned her B.S. and M.A. degrees in nursing from Long Island University. After graduating as a registered nurse, she joined Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. Ingleton’s career in long term care began at Midway Nursing Home in 1973 where she was director of nursing services and administration for more than thirty years. There, she presented seminars to the long-term care industry. She was an adjunct nursing professor at the college and university level. She lectured at Medgar Evers College until 2005 and was a nursing consultant to the Nursing Department at Parker Jewish Institute, part of Long Island Hospital. She received several awards including The Black Nurses Day Community Services Award.
