Abstract:

Actress Lorraine Toussaint was born on April 4, 1960, in Trinidad, in the West Indies, but moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York when she was ten years old. Toussaint attended the High School of Performing Arts and went on to attend the Juilliard School. She landed her first acting job on the day she graduated from Juilliard, playing Lady MacBeth with “Shakespeare & Company” in New York. After more than a decade on-stage in New York, she moved to Los Angeles, where she began working in television and the movies. Toussaint was perhaps best known for numerous roles on Law & Order and in the TV miniseries, Queen, based on the book by Alex Haley. Her role in Lifetime TV’s Any Day Now, garnered her three nominations for the NAACP Image Awards. She also appeared in the made-for-television movie version of Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God with Halle Berry and Ruby Dee.
