Abstract:

Politician and lawyer Wilson Frost was born on December 27, 1925, in Cairo, Illinois. After attending Fisk University and Chicago-Kent College of Law, Frost went into private practice in 1958. He served as senior partner in several firms and finally retired from Frost & Greenblatt in 1998. In 1967, Frost entered politics and was elected as one of Chicago's aldermen. Following the death of Mayor Richard J. Daley in 1976, Frost, who was serving as president pro tem of the City Council and thus in line to succeed the mayor, was prevented from taking office as an African American. Instead, he was named chairman of the Finance Committee of the City Council. Frost remained active with Chicago politics until his retirement. He was honored by numerous organizations, including the Illinois House of Representatives. He also served as a trustee of the John Marshall School of Law.
