Abstract:

Correspondence, diaries, genealogical notebooks, account ledgers, indentures, receipts and other business papers, scrapbooks and printed material, and a miscellany of other manuscript types relating to the history of the Hudson Valley, and particularly Dutchess County. Most of the materials deal with business matters but also include personal correspondence, diaries, records of the Mid-Hudson Regional Committee on the Conservation of Cultural Resources, 1941-1943, and inventories of Dutchess County church and public records prepared by the Works Progress Administration, ca. 1937-1938. Examples include bird banding records and diaries of Maunsell Crosby, 1909-1931; papers of the DePeyster family, 1719-1905; diary of Clarence Gray Dinsmore, 1882-1883; minutes of the Dutchess County Council of Appointment, 1778-1779; daybooks from the Hyde Park Drug Store of Ray Hill, 1915-1942; papers of the Livingston family, 1736-1892; letterbooks and diary of Mary Livingston Ludlow, 1858-1867; diaries of Jane Ann Coffin Morgan, wife of Caleb Morgan, 1849-1862; minutes of the New Hamburg Ice Boat Club, 1869-1885; daybooks of William A. Plog concerning the Roosevelt estate at Hyde Park, 1910-1945; records of the Saint James Episcopal Church, Hyde Park, 1856-1935; papers of Smith Thompson and the Poughkeepsie Anti-Slavery Society, 1797-1832; and minutes from the Women's Preparative Meeting of the Little Nine Partners Society of Friends.

1800-1826.

Also, ledgers and business papers of the Van Wyck family including Richard C. Van Wyck, Van Wyck and Roe, and Van Wyck Brothers, 1771-1883; letter book of William and Jacob Walton regarding trade in Europe, the West Indies, and the North American colonies; and account books of Hyde Park blacksmith Daniel Wigg, 1839-1878. Items on microfilm include business and family papers collected by Albert Livingston Marshall of George Crawford, 1787-1837, and the Sanford, Gardner, and Babcock families, 1742-1888; and three bound volumes of Gilbert T. Pearsall documenting his activities as a physician and general store proprietor in Salt Point, Dutchess County, 1846-1856.
