Abstract:

H86-27-01 Side A Sandra Connelly talks about her early years in Canada, her nursing education, her nursing job at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, and Marge Boyd. Hugh Connelly talks about some of the influences in his decision to come to Alaska, his trip to Alaska, his first few days in Anchorage, Paul Shelmerdine, taking a job with the Alaska Railroad as a gandy dancer, training to be a locomotive fireman, working at the stores department for the railroad, and being tested by Uncle Fudd on the Seward train.

H86-27-01 Side B Hugh Connelly talks about Elmer Williams, taking a hostler job in Fairbanks, the old roundhouse in Fairbanks, working at Curry, burning up an engine and being fired, and getting rehired by the Alaska Railroad. Sandra Connelly talks about meeting her husband, working for the Weather Bureau in Fairbanks, Ursula Marine, and working at St. Joseph's Hospital.

H86-27-02 Sandra Connelly talks about the difficulty of finding housing when they first arrived in Fairbanks, Dr. Lundquist, some of the doctors that worked at the hospital, tuberculosis patients, Minnie Schultz, treating alcoholics in the hospital, Ethel Ghezzi, Kathleen Jordan, Ruth May, Anne Prentiss, Pat Ritrock, and Linda Drowe.
