Deeply moving & real.

Joey & Sukari are still on my mind, days after finishing Rorby's fine novel. Joey is a 13-year-old deaf ("I'm deaf, not retarded) girl, who befriends and ultimately champions Sukari, a chimpanzee raised as a human child. This is not a 'cute animal'story, far from it. Intelligent and passionate...a good read at any age
