Abstract:

"Igor Markevitch was an enormously charismatic conductor who combined virtuoso conducting skills with a keen musical intelligence ... Markevitch made his American debut as guest conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1955 and, in 1957, he began a four-year association with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Around this time, Markevitch made several appearances in the studios of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation which are the basis for VAI's series 'The Art of Igor Markevitch." These telecasts provide a vivid testament to the art of a great conductor at the height of his interpretative powers.
