In-Dependence” From Bondage (2007), examines the social and political views of the well known Harlem Renaissance Poet and Novelist, Claude McKay, and that of the world renowned Caribbean Socialist, Michel N. Manley. It is the first book to comparatively study the worldviews of Claude McKay and Michael N. Manley. The book explains: • the common historical context of Claude McKay’s and Michael Manley’s conception of history and major problems in international relations. • Claude McKay’s trajectory from an Afro-Caribbean colonial poet to an enlightened internationalist, whose famous poem, "If We Must Die," ushered in the Harlem Renaissance. • Michael Manley’s transition from a Jamaican nationalist to a leader in world affairs. • the foundations of McKay’s and Manley’s worldviews for African Diaspora development, through analysis of their literary works. • Within the framework of McKay’s and Manley’s political and social views, critically examines the current discourse on globalization and the outcome of the current multinational corporations’ agenda on human development in the African Diaspora. “In-Dependence” is an important reference book in its field for several reasons, including: a) because of its interdisciplinary methodology, b)it is a major contribution to the study of the African Diaspora, and c)its approach to the examination of globalization and international politics.
