This remains one of my favorite reads from last year. I laughed. I cried. I could not put it down. I am a sister. Maybe that was why Maggie and Rose appealed to me so much. Plus I lived in Philadelphia, which gets a nice romantic gloss. The evil stepmother, the sage Jewish grandmother, the party girl, the "good" girl, these are stock characters, but Weiner infuses them with life, humor, hubris, pathos.
