"Journal of a trip that began in Monroe, Michigan in March of 1852, with a caravan of twenty-four men, one woman, forty-four head of horses and mules, and eight wagons all going to the newly found gold fields in California. The entire trip to Hangtown, California, covered 2,542 miles, and was five months lacking six days in making it.
