Abstract:

This series consists of a card file index to part of Series B0561, State Museum Director's, State Geologist's, and State Paleontologist's Correspondence Files. Cards predominantly index correspondence between James Hall and other geologists and paleontologists during Hall's lengthy career with the State Museum and other institutions. Cards list correspondent's name, date of correspondence, and place where correspondence originated. While most entries refer to letters received by Hall, those marked "from Hall" refer to copies of outgoing correspondence written by Hall. Incoming correspondence addressed to other State Museum officials including John C. Smock, Frederick J.H. Merrill, and John M. Clarke is specifically identified as such.

The index is incomplete and should be used with caution. Names of some known correspondents are missing and others are only partially indexed. Certain indexed letters cannot be located in the records.
