Abstract:

Inspector Morse is a melancholy, enigmatic and romantic man who never uses his first name and who finds solace in real ale, classical music and difficult crosswords. Together with his able Sergeant Lewis, Morse uses his considerable intellect and passion for the truth and justice to investigate death and murder in the English university town of Oxford. (Sins of the father) The family run Radford Brewery is the subject of a takeover bid by a huge multinational when the managing director is unexpectedly found dead. (Driven to distraction) Morse is convinced that a womanizing local car dealer holds the key to the murders of two young women, but he has no proof. (Masonic mysteries) Morse is the prime suspect when his lady friend is murdered during a dress rehearsal of The Magic Flute. Even loyal Sergeant Lewis must admit that all the clues point ot Morse as the killer.
