Abstract:

Through the ritual of preparing a meal, American Zen master Bernard Glassman teaches a distillation of Zen wisdom that can be used as a guide for business, social ventures, peacemaking, or just life in general.

In an old farmhouse in America’s rural New England, Bernard Glassman, a famous American Zen Master, prepares a meal in the same way that he teaches a distillation of Zen wisdom that can be used as a guide for business, social ventures, peacemaking or just life. Bernie took his philosophy and put it to work in Yonkers, New York. He founded a bakery hiring people who were considered unemployable: the homeless, former drug addicts, and parolees. The documentary may at first appear to be part biography of Glassman and part distillation of Zen Wisdom applied to the ritual of preparing a meal. Wolf, however, interweaves these threads into a wonderful meditation on how to live a life that matters in, and outside of, the kitchen. Captures the lively and profound qualities of Glassman through personal interviews and candid footage.
