This paper outlines the key characteristics of intellectual property rights, and the particular problems they pose for market processes. Whereas disclosure of intellectual property presents a fundamental problem for obtaining reward from intellectual endeavour, the main problem confronting copyright protection is in the effective enforcement of these rights.
