Raw interview footage used for the documentary Broadway, the American musical. Producer, director, composer and musician Cy Feuer discusses the creation of the musical Guys and dolls, starting with its origins in the work of Damon Runyon, teaming up with producer Ernest H. Martin, working with composer Frank Loesser, and librettist Abe Burrows' transformation of Runyon's writing for the show. Other topics of discussion include his favorite Broadway shows; Ethel Merman's singing voice; the song Adelaide's lament, introduced by Vivian Blaine, his favorite from Guys and dolls; theatrical producer George Abbott; director George S. Kaufmann's input during the inception of Guys and dolls; composer Cole Porter, including his working habits and his riding accident; Michael Kidd's choreography in the musical Subways are for sleeping, featuring dancer Michael Bennett; the work of choreographer Bob Fosse; dancer Gwen Verdon; the origins of the musical theater and its current state; his encounters with choreographer George Balanchine on the musical Where's Charley?; the casting of B.
